During my regional visits this year, I’ve heard from practice leaders that while there is plenty of work for solicitors and support staff in the country, attracting and retaining talent remains a challenge. At the same time, I’ve been inspired by the young solicitors who have made the move. They tell me the variety and depth of the work is stimulating, challenging and rewarding. Expressions of interest for Law Society Committees close Tuesday 30 September 2025
One of the best ways to give back to your profession, contribute to law reform, make new connections, and stay up-to-date is to participate in one of the Law Society's Regulatory, Policy, or Segment Committees. Whether you are a partner who can lend expertise to our Public Law Committee or an in-house counsel who wants to share your experience and guidance with our In-house Corporate Lawyers Committee, there is a Committee to suit everyone. 2025 Law Society Council Election
Solicitor members will shortly receive an email invitation to vote electronically in the 2025 Law Society Council election. Eleven candidates have been nominated to fill six positions on Council for three-year terms. There are four Councillor Reserved Positions (Country, Suburban, Large Firm, Corporate) and two Councillor unreserved positions available. Voting will close at 2.00pm (AEDT) on Monday, 20 October 2025. Candidate information will be available on a central webpage, with a separate email and link to follow. Registered tax agents
All Law Society members who are also registered tax agents have been requested by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) to update their TPB profile to record their Law Society membership. This will assist the Law Society to maintain its accreditation as a Recognised Tax Agent Association.
