Dr Marcus Bowles, Chair and co-founder of The Institute of Working Futures, was one of the experts that helped us to develop this tool. I’m delighted to announce a webinar featuring Dr Bowles will be broadcast this Thursday, 13 November. Continue reading >

Advocacy in Action: Human Rights Legislation for NSW
The Law Society has a long-standing position of support for dedicated human rights legislation for NSW. Such legislation can ensure that human rights are considered consistently in the law-making process and assist in strengthening the integrity of the public sector by embedding human rights considerations in government policies, decision-making and actions. See further discussion in our updated Thought Leadership document here.

Advocacy in Action: Freedom of Information
Through our recent submission to the Law Council of Australia, the Law Society raised our concerns around the Freedom of Information Amendment Bill 2025. We suggested that the Bill fails to address core challenges facing the FOI regime, including with respect to its design, administration, delays, and funding. In addition, it includes several amendments which may have the effect of reducing transparency around government decision-making and hindering scrutiny of matters in the public interest.

Probate Tips: Addressing common requisitions
- Practitioners are reminded that a certified copy of the Death Certificate should be annexed to the Affidavit of the Executor/Applicant in all probate applications.
- In relation to the scan of the Will for probate applications, practitioners are reminded that the front sheets and back sheets should not be included. Please ensure that all Wills are clear, A4 and consistent (i.e., all pages to be colour or black and white, rather than a combination of both). A3, foolscap, and Post Office Wills should be resized to A4 before uploading.
- Practitioners are reminded that the scan of a Will should be of the original Will, and not of a certified copy of the Will.
- In relation to affidavits, practitioners are reminded to select either ‘swear’ or ‘affirm’. Please ensure that the affidavits are dated, and the suburb and witness details are completed in jurat.
