Legal practice places significant demands on the mind. Lawyers are required to think clearly under pressure Legal practice places significant demands on the mind.
Lawyers are required to think clearly under pressure, respond to unexpected challenges, absorb complex information and adapt to constantly changing circumstances. While these demands can be rewarding, they can also take a toll when combined with the high expectations and long hours often associated with legal practice.
In this session, Josephine Waugh, Wellbeing Officer at the Law Society of NSW, will explore the mental and emotional challenges lawyers commonly face, including perfectionism and the fear of making mistakes. Attendees will gain practical insights into developing a more sustainable approach to practice through cultivating curiosity, adaptability and resilience. The session will also examine the impact of perfectionism on confidence, wellbeing and professional development, and explore strategies for maintaining perspective, finding meaning in challenge and fostering a growth-oriented mindset.
