FLIP Series and the Federal Budget

Artificial Intelligence or AI as it’s known, is now being used in a multitude of ways in legal practice, from document automation to predictive analytics. The impact of AI on the legal profession is one of the key topics being discussed this Wednesday 10 April 2019 at the Law Society of NSW’s FLIP Stream seminar in collaboration with UNSW.

On another matter, we welcomed last week’s Federal Budget announcement of an additional $20 million funding for our nation’s legal assistance services and the certainty it will provide for these vital services over the next three years. Continue reading >

Online lodgements for 2019-20 practising certificate and membership renewals are now open.

Draft Conveyancing Rules version 5 and next stages of the mandate
Circular 2019/1 from the Office of the Registrar General  Consultation on the Conveyancing Rules Version 5 contains important information about the draft Conveyancing Rules and the next stages in the mandating of electronic lodgment on 1 July 2019 and 1 July 2020. Mainstream conveyancing documents, transmission applications and withdrawals of caveat must be lodged electronically from 1 July 2019.

NSW Law Reform Commission Survey for lawyers - access to digital assets upon death or incapacity
The NSW Law Reform Commission is seeking the views of lawyers who provide advice on estate planning and administration, and/or guardianship and power of attorney arrangements. The Commission wants to hear about how lawyers advise clients on managing their digital records and digital assets after they die or become incapacitated. Legal visitor announcement - Change of operator at Parklea Correctional Centre
On 31 March 2019, MTC-Broadspectrum will be the new operator of the Parklea Correctional Centre (the Centre) on behalf of Corrective Services NSW. GEO will no longer operate this Centre. MTC-Broadspectrum does not plan on making any significant changes to the current procedures for legal and professional visits. The intention is for MTC-Broadspectrum to complete a review of visits within the first 60 days after 31 March 2019.  READ MORE
