National Reconciliation Week 2019

Next week marks National Reconciliation Week 2019, with a program of events and activities being held in all states and territories to commemorate two significant milestones in our country’s reconciliation journey - the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. As well as being a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Legal Aid NSW policy amendment (Means Test - Financially Associated Person)
Legal Aid NSW has implemented a new test for Financially Associated Persons (Means Test). The test has been revised to make it clearer, fairer and improve consistency in application. The change applies to applications for legal aid determined on or after 13 May 2019. See Policy Bulletin 2019/7 – (Means Test – Financially Associated Person) for more information.
There is an online training module available for 0.5 CPD points. To access the module, login to our Learning Management System and search for "Financially Associated Person Test". Additional resources including tip sheets and FAQs can be found on the Eligibility Policy Resources page on the Legal Aid NSW website.

District Court of NSW – Protocol for Contacting the List Judge
The New South Wales District Court has published a protocol for contacting the Civil List Judge. Solicitors, particularly those who practise in the District Court jurisdiction, are requested to review the protocol, available on the District Court’s website.

Transmission applications must be lodged electronically from 1 July 2019
From 1 July 2019 all transmission applications must be lodged electronically, unless signed before 1 July 2019. This is part of the mandatory transition for mainstream conveyancing documents outlined in Circular 2019/01 from the Office of the Registrar General.  For guidance on completing an electronic Transmission Application see the Registrar General's Guidelines.
