PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Our commitment to eliminate sexual harassment in the legal profession

One of the fundamental rights for anyone working in the legal profession – or any workplace, for that matter – is that they can work in an environment in which they are free from sexual harassment, bullying, discrimination, vilification or victimisation.

Which is why the allegations of sexual harassment made by six women against former High Court Justice Dyson Heydon AC QC, the findings of an independent investigation into the allegations, and the subsequent statement issued by The Hon Susan Kiefel AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, are deeply concerning and disturbing. Continue reading >

To engage in legal practice from 1 July 2020, you must hold a practising certificate. If you have not yet lodged your renewal application, please do so here. The legal profession legislation does not permit the Law Society to accept a practising certificate renewal application that is submitted after 30 June 2020. The Law Society has launched a new resource, Contingency Plan for Sole Principals, designed to help sole principals nominate a Personal Representative and an Alternate in the event they are no longer able to manage their practice. Read more here.

In line with the easing of restrictions, our “COVID-19 Update” will now revert to a weekly e-newsletter. From this week, members will receive the “COVID-19 Update” in their inbox each Thursday afternoon. Of course, we will continue to keep our dedicated COVID-19 portal updated with information as it comes to hand for the benefit of members.
Specialist Accreditation Conference postponed
Due to COVID-19, the Specialist Accreditation conference has been postponed until November 2020. Dates and program to be announced soon.
