PC, membership and Specialist Accreditation renewals open on Wednesday
You will be able to log in and renew your practising certificate, membership and Specialist Accreditation via the Law Society website from Wednesday. We’ll also contact you directly over the next few weeks to make sure you complete your renewal on time.

Waverley Local Court
Due to ongoing renovations, Waverley Local Court is currently sitting in courtrooms 7A and 7B, Level 7, John Maddison Tower (JMT) at 86 Goulburn St, Sydney. Practitioners are advised that all written correspondence to Waverley Local Court must be directed to local-court-waverley@justice.nsw.gov.au. Please do not send correspondence about Waverley matters to the Downing Centre Local Court registry. If practitioners or members of the public need to access Waverley Local Court registry, this can be done either at the registry at 151 Bronte Rd, Waverley (which remains open) or at Level 4 of JMT.

National Attrition and Re-engagement Study (NARS) Plus: Survey of Australia’s Legal Profession 2026
The Law Council of Australia invites those who have been admitted to the legal profession in any Australian jurisdiction to take part in a national survey exploring lawyers’ characteristics and experiences, and what is needed to address attrition across the profession. The voluntary and confidential survey takes around 20 minutes and is open until Friday 24 April 2026. You can access the survey here.

Trust Confirmation Statement (Part A, B & EER) 2026
The Trust Lodgement Portal (TLP) opens on Wednesday 1 April 2026. All law practices must submit Part A by Thursday 30 April 2026 - including those that did not receive or hold trust money between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, in accordance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and rule 54 of the Legal Profession Uniform General Rules 2015. Practices that held or received trust money must also submit Part B and an External Examiner’s Report by Sunday 31 May 2026. Inquiry into community safety in regional and rural communities: Final report
On Thursday 19 March, the NSW Parliament Legislative Assembly Committee on Law and Safety published its final report on the inquiry into community safety in regional and rural communities. The report draws on extensive consultation and includes recommendations consistent with the input from the Law Society’s Children’s Legal Issues, Indigenous Issues, Criminal Law and Rural Issues Committees, whose expert advice informed the Law Society’s submissions to the inquiry. Crown Land Management Amendment (Statutory Review) Bill 2026
The Law Society of NSW welcomed the announcement by Minister for Lands and Property the Hon Steve Kamper MP that debate on the Crown Land Management Amendment (Statutory Review) Bill 2026 has been deferred to allow for consultation with Local Aboriginal Land Councils. This deferral followed urgent advocacy by the NSWALC, supported by the Law Society. Read the Law Society's full statement here.

Transport Administration (General) Amendment (Public Transport Accident Compensation) Regulation 2026
The Regulation commenced on 20 March 2026 and inserts clause 23A into the Transport Administration (General) Regulation 2018, published here. Clause 23A clarifies that damages arising from a public transport accident involving a motor vehicle are to be determined under Part 4 of the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017. The amendment does not apply retrospectively.

Commencement of the Local Court and Bail Legislation Amendment Act 2025
From Saturday 28 March 2026, Magistrates of the Local Court of NSW, Children’s Court or NSW and Industrial Court of NSW, will all become known as Judges, respectively Judges of the Local Court, Judges of the Children’s Court, and Judges of the Industrial Local Court. The title changes will also apply to the Chief Magistrate and Deputy Chief Magistrates of the Local Court.
