The legal profession places a premium on competence, precision, and delivering excellent outcomes for clients. However, these standards can also heighten self-scrutiny and contribute to persistent doubt and difficulty internalising success, often leading to a phenomenon referred to as impostor syndrome.

This session provides evidence-informed strategies to recognise and respond to impostor thoughts, reframe unhelpful beliefs, and develop more adaptive coping approaches to support wellbeing, confidence and career progression. Lucy Chapple will briefly introduce her current research program, Mental Fitness in the Law, including how structured self-reflective writing, as taught in the program, can support greater awareness and insight when recognising and managing these experiences.
