Events not to be missed – Thought Leadership, FLIP Buzzwords and Just Trivia

Recent discussion about religious freedom and discrimination has ignited public interest like few other issues. At the heart of the debate is a significant law reform process which may change the legal landscape for many solicitors and their clients. With more than 25,000 submissions made during three consultation exercises, there are divergent views on key aspects of the draft legislation. Our upcoming Thought Leadership Series event on Religion and Reform on Tuesday 8 December 2020 will explore the potential legal impacts of the proposed reforms and their effect on business, individuals, and the wider community. Don't miss an engaging discussion as our expert panellists navigate this complex and sensitive issue.

Many people can count on one hand the number of times they have worked in their office since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in March. Moving our desks from the office to home in 2020 has rapidly changed the way we work, not just during COVID-19, but potentially for the future. In the final FLIP Buzzwords event for 2020, the Law Society will stage an important panel discussion looking at the opportunities and challenges that working from home (WFH) pose, what 2021 will look like for the legal profession, and how we can deliver legal services differently. Joining me on the panel will be Anna Campbell, General Counsel, Australian Financial Complaints Authority, Jo McAlpine, Head of Talent & Capability, King & Wood Mallesons, and Simon Bruck, President of NSW Young Lawyers and Community Legal Centre Managing Lawyer. Professor Michael Legg, Director of the Law Society’s FLIP Stream research at UNSW Law, will facilitate the discussion, which will be held as an online event at 3:30pm, Wednesday 9 December. Register now to watch live or to view on demand.

As our thoughts start to turn to Christmas and preparing to celebrate with our loved ones, I am mindful there will be many individuals and families who will be struggling to put food on the table over the festive season, more so in NSW after the triple economic impact of drought, bushfires and pandemic. Which is why I am delighted to announce that one of our final events for 2020 will be a virtual trivia night on Wednesday, 16 December 2020, with all proceeds going to support Foodbank ACT & NSW, Australia’s largest food relief organisation. The cost is just $25 per person, and you can register as an individual or as a team of up to eight people. If you fancy your chances in the trivia stakes, register now for Just Trivia and prepare to face-off with your peers in a quest to claim Just Trivia glory (and take home some of the great prizes on offer).
