NSW COVID-19 cases

NSW had one new case of COVID-19 diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night while Victoria had 12 new cases and eight deaths. The NSW case is that of a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine. More here.

Easing of restrictions for schools, weddings and community sport

The NSW government has given the go-ahead for dancing for bridal parties at weddings, school choirs, excursions and end-of-term celebrations. The Premier has confirmed that Sydney's New Year’s Eve fireworks display will also go ahead, consistent with public health orders, but the event will be vastly different to previous years. Launch of COVID Safe Summer Plan

The NSW Government has released a new COVID Safe Summer Plan to encourage the community and local business to enjoy the warmer weather while using public spaces safely. More here.

South Australia border reopens to NSW

People entering from NSW can now enter South Australia without the requirement for COVID-19 testing or 14 day self-quarantine upon arrival as long as during the 14 days immediately before their arrival in South Australia, they have been in a low transmission zone (ACT, NT, QLD, NSW, WA, or TAS) for that preceding 14 days. This provision only applies to people who travel from NSW to South Australia via air or via road, travelling through NSW.  Entry via Victoria is prohibited except for Essential Travellers or persons escaping domestic violence or providing support to a family member who is experiencing domestic violence. Pandemic leave for NSW Workers

The NSW Government will partner with the Commonwealth to give workers without leave entitlements access to the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment arrangements. More here

Retail and Other Commercial Leases (COVID-19) Regulation

Eligible commercial tenants will have greater certainty through the coming months with the Retail and Other Commercial Leases (COVID-19) Regulation to be extended until 31 December 2020. Landlords will also be able to receive up to 25 per cent land tax concession where they provide rent relief to commercial and residential tenants in financial distress from October to December. Changes to JobKeeper and JobSeeker

The Federal Government has put in place a series of temporary support measures targeted to individual circumstances through JobKeeper Payment and JobSeeker Payment as the country transitions to a post-COVID economy. Temporary changes to JobSeeker come into effect tomorrow, while changes to JobKeeper will come into effect from Monday 29 September 2020. More here

Federal Government’s revised Fiscal strategy

Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg has outlined the Morrison Government's revised fiscal strategy in a speech to the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the speech, he discusses the upcoming Budget, unemployment, economic recovery, taxation and government expenditure, fiscal support, insolvency laws, and Economic Recovery Plan. Read the speech here
