NSW COVID-19 cases
NSW recorded no new cases of locally acquired COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. Five cases were reported in overseas travellers in hotel quarantine. More here.
South Australia travel advice
Following the recent case notifications in South Australia, health and travel advice has been upgraded. NSW residents are now advised to defer non-essential travel to Adelaide, while people from Adelaide should defer non-essential travel to NSW. If you have recently returned from Adelaide and have been to any of the sites of concern listed on the SA Health website, whether listed as “People who must quarantine” or “Monitor your symptoms”, please get tested immediately, regardless of symptoms. NSW Health is asking people coming to NSW from South Australia to complete a declaration form to check if they have visited any of the venues of concern identified by the South Australian authorities and provide contact details if follow-up is required. This also applies people who have been in South Australia within the past 14 days. The form is available here. Areas of concern are available here.
NSW-Victorian border
The NSW Government will reopen the border to Victoria at 12:01am on Monday 23 November. More here.
In person social visits in correctional facilities
From Monday, 23 November 2020, Corrective Services NSW will recommence in person social visits. All visitors will be required to comply with new safety measures such as physical distancing, screening criteria and the use of surgical masks. Corrective Services NSW intend to gradually increase capacity and reduce restrictions when it is safe to do so. COVID-safe procedures and measures will also apply to in person visits by solicitors and other professionals. Further information can be found here.
$1 billion vaccine manufacturing agreement
A new high-tech vaccine manufacturing facility will be developed in Melbourne to secure Australia’s long-term supply of critical health products including pandemic influenza vaccines and life-saving antivenoms. More here.
2020-21 NSW Budget
NSW Treasurer, the Hon. Dominic Perrottet MP, has handed down the 2020-21 budget NSW, which he says responds to the urgent needs of NSW people, while looking beyond the present COVCID-19 crisis to an ambitious economic recovery. View the Budget here.
Law Society response to NSW Budget
The Law Society of NSW has welcomed the has welcomed funding allocated in the 2020-21 NSW Budget to improve justice infrastructure in NSW and support the most vulnerable people in our community. More here.
Australian Human rights Charter
The Law Council of Australia has pointed to COVID-19 and successive Royal Commissions over the past decade as proof of the need for greater clarity on the rights and freedoms of Australians. The Law Council  believes that now is the time to reignite the conversation and is calling on the Australian Government to implement a federal Human Rights Act. More here.
