Victoria enters lockdown
This morning the Victorian Government has announced a seven day lockdown will begin from 11.59pm tonight [May 27]. The lockdown will last until 11.59pm on June 3. In that time, Victorians have just five reasons to leave home: shopping for essential goods/services, permitted work/education, exercise for a maximum of two hours with one other person, caregiving/medical reasons and getting vaccinated. Masks are to be worn everywhere and vaccination sites in the state have been expanded so that anyone aged 40 and over is now eligible. In the 24 hours to midnight last night, Victoria recorded 12 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and there are 34 active cases in the state. You can read the Victorian Government’s instructions here. Some states, including South Australia and Tasmania, have closed their border to Victorians.
Updated advice for those travelling to NSW from Victoria
Anyone travelling to NSW who has been in Victoria after 4pm today (Thursday) must follow the stay-at-home measures that will apply in Victoria, as announced by the Victorian Government this morning. This means anyone arriving in NSW who has been in Victoria since 4pm today must remain at their home or place of residence in NSW for the duration of the Victorian measures (seven days). People will only be permitted to leave their places of residence for limited reasons, including shopping for essential items, medical care, caregiving, outdoor exercise, and essential work or education, if it cannot be done from home. People subject to the stay-at-home measures in Victoria should not be travelling to NSW unless they are permitted to do so. NSW residents in border communities will have different requirements, recognising the daily interaction of residents in these communities with regional Victoria. For NSW residents living along the Victorian border, the seven-day stay-at-home requirement will only apply to people who have been outside the border region in Victoria since 4pm today.
