District Court

The District Court will lift the temporary suspension of jury trials in some, but not all, District Court venues on and from Monday 15 June 2020. More here.

Further restrictions to ease on Saturday

NSW will ease further restrictions from tomorrow, Saturday 13 June, with food courts allowed to reopen, the number of people allowed to visit homes increased from five to 20, and the number of people allowed to gather outdoors increased from 10 to 20. More here.

Supreme Court ruling on Sydney rally

The NSW Supreme Court has ruled that tomorrow’s planned rally in the Sydney CBD, organised by the Refugee Action Coalition, is prohibited. Justice Michael Walton ruled that health risks outweigh freedom of speech “in the present context”. Access the ruling here.

NSW Land Registry Services

The NSW Land Registry Services has updated its FAQs to include more detail on the residual lodgement channel. View the FAQs here.

Remote IT phone support

A phone line support service is now available for members of the Law Society experiencing IT issues whilst working remotely during the pandemic. A third-party IT engineer will be available for resolution or support for technical or cyber security issues. 24-hour call back will also be available. Housing support available for homeless

A $36 million new Together Home project will provide housing and essential support services to people experiencing homelessness in NSW as part of the NSW Government's response to COVID-19. More here.

School-based activities further relaxed

The NSW Government has announced a staged resumption of school activities, including a return to school sports from Term 3. More here.

Community Sport Recovery Package

With community sport and recreation activities returning as COVID-19 restrictions ease, the NSW Government today announced a Community Sport Recovery Package to support the sector get back on its feet. More here.

National Cabinet meeting

Following a meeting of National Cabinet today, the Prime Minister has announced changes to stage three of national cabinet’s roadmap to recovery. From July, the cap of 100 people per venue will be replaced by the ‘four-square-metre’ rule. Stadiums with fewer than 40,000 seats can have 25 per cent capacity but events must be seated and ticketed. More here.

Members of IR working groups announced

The Morrison Government has finalised the primary membership of the five industrial relations working groups tasked with finding ways to urgently regrow jobs lost as a result of COVID-19. The working groups will each have 10 full-time members – five from employer and five from employee groups. More here.

In recognition of the significant challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Taxation Office has published information on their website, including a Tax Essentials Page, to help make tax time easier for taxpayers and the community. More here.

ASIC amends financial advice and capital raisings

ASIC has today registered an amending instrument to specify an end date for three COVID-19 related instruments. More here.
