Family Law
Sub-Committee
What we do
The Family Law Sub-Committee brings together early career solicitors working in family law throughout NSW to provide subscribers with the opportunity to discuss issues, share experiences, build and develop knowledge, acquire skills and form networks. The Family Law Sub-Committee also has a number of broad objectives, including monitoring and responding to proposed changes or issues in the family law jurisdiction, organising events and publications on issues relating to all aspects of family law and promoting and appraising subscribers of wellbeing initiatives.
Our initiatives
- The Sub-Committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss current trends and changes or issues in the family law jurisdiction, and share ideas in relation to issues that subscribers face in their day-to-day roles.
- The Sub-Committee regularly arranges educational events and guest speakers. These events are held throughout the year and enable subscribers to focus on practical skills. Past speakers have included judicial officers, barristers and senior practitioners, each bringing their own experience and insight to the group.
- The Sub-Committee regularly prepares submissions and open letters to the State and Federal government confronting issues in the Family Law sector.
- The Sub-Committee holds various networking events throughout the year with the aim of bringing together early career solicitors who may not otherwise confer with one another in a social setting.
- The Sub-Committee has previously facilitated a day-long ‘Confidence in the Courtroom’ event. Run by judges, barristers and solicitors, the event involves practical workshops where early career solicitors can engage in mock hearings and are provided with feedback in an informal environment.
