We are delighted to invite you to the next edition of the Staying Well in the Law series: Working with Anxiety, at 1.00pm on Wednesday 18 June.

In this webinar Sarah Edelman, Clinical Psychologist, will unpack the physical, cognitive, and behavioural dimensions of anxiety, referencing examples of challenges that might arise for those in the legal profession. You will learn how anxiety manifests in the body, how it affects behaviours, and how it distorts thought processes through cognitive bias and overthinking.

This webinar will also explore how personality shapes our core beliefs, which in turn may present additional challenges when facing environmental stressors. These may include cognitive rigidity and reasoning errors (such as black-and-white thinking) which fuel the cycle of anxiety.

Other techniques will include addressing environmental stressors and identifying beliefs that inhibit problem solving. Using principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), you will briefly explore the practice of thought monitoring and challenging reasoning errors. You will also learn some practical strategies, including breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, physical exercise and mindfulness.
