Conference Details
Day 1, 13 August 2026 – International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour
Day 2, 14 August 2026 – online
Session topic: The ongoing importance of legal expertise and specialisation in the face of AI and a changing legal landscape.
Deputy Chief Justice McClelland AO will examine the rise of generative artificial intelligence and the extent to which technology will continue to transform legal practice by improving efficiency in drafting, research, and streamlining administrative processes. However, his Honour contends that such technology cannot replace legal judgment, expertise or ethical responsibility. The inherent limitations of artificial intelligence including the propensity for hallucinations, create significant risks to the administration of justice if legal practitioners do not treat evolving technologies with the necessary caution. In this context, his Honour will explore the interrelation between ethics and accountability in this changing digital landscape.
Conference attendees can claim up to 10 Specialist CPD units; each specialist stream includes six hours of live in-person seminars and four hours of online webinars.
Can't make Day 1 in person? Where possible, conference sessions will be recorded and you can watch your stream's sessions after the event.
