Connection – an important component for thriving, diverse and inclusive workplaces

There is a homeless woman whom I see every night as I walk home from work. She sits in the same place and asks for loose change. Her manners are impeccable, and she quietly asks, “Excuse me, do you have any spare change?” Since COVID-19 hit, I never carry money. I chose to stop recently and say hello. I stopped because she has been polite to me for the past six months and on this night, she didn’t ask me for money.

Member webinars – composition of Law Society Council reviews
We are conducting a membership survey to ask your views on what a best practice Law Society Council might look like. In addition to the survey, our independent governance consultants, Cameron Ralph Khoury, are holding a member webinar at 11am on Wednesday 20 July. The webinar will allow members the opportunity to ask questions about the review and to tell us what they think about our board and governance structure. Staying Well in the Law: Understanding ADHD
This Wednesday, Professor Mark Bellgrove will discuss the symptoms and epidemiology of ADHD across the lifespan and highlight key differences between children and adults. In explaining the cognitive, pharmacological and neurobiological theories of ADHD, Professor Bellgrove will identify which features of cognition in ADHD may be advantageous.

Appointment of Huw Baker SC as a Judge of the NSW District Court 
Huw Baker SC has been appointed a Judge of the District Court of NSW. ​​​​​A formal ceremony to honour this occasion will be held in John Maddison Tower on Level 21, at 9:00am on Thursday 21 July 2022.

Seeking applications for Judge of District Court
The Attorney General is seeking applications from qualified persons for appointment as a Judge of the District Court of NSW. Applicants must be either current or former judicial officers or Australian lawyers of at least seven years’ standing and should be conversant with the law and procedures applied in the District Court. Applications close Sunday 24 July. Find out more.
35th LAWASIA Conference 2022
The annual conference brings together  bar leaders, jurists, professional organisations and individual lawyers from across the Asia Pacific, and is designed to facilitate the discussion of regional developments in law, including such issues as judicial practice, legal education, cross border business and investment law and cross-border dispute resolution. T​he 35th LAWASIA Conference will be held face-to-face at the Hilton, from 18 to 21 November 2022. To register click here. 
Land and Environment Court Anniversary Conference and Dinner

Revenue NSW is undertaking a tax gap analysis for transactions assessed under the Duties Act 1997.
As part of the analysis, EDR clients/practitioners may be asked to provide records for a randomly selected sample of transactions assessed in the past five-years.
