President of the Law Society of NSW, Elizabeth Espinosa, today congratulated the Honourable Justice Margaret Beazley QC AO on being named as the next Governor of NSW.

Justice Beazley, the current President of the NSW Court of Appeal, will be the second woman to hold the post (after Dame Marie Bashir) and will replace His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd) as Governor in May 2019.

"On behalf of the NSW Law Society, I would like to extend my congratulations to Justice Margaret Beazley on her appointment as the next Governor of NSW," Ms Espinosa said.

"Justice Beazley has enjoyed a stellar career in the judiciary and the law spanning more than four decades.

"During this time, she has been an inspiring leader, an outstanding role model and mentor to many in the legal profession.

"Justice Beazley is highly respected within the legal profession and well regarded for her empathy, compassion and her deep belief in the value of community, education and the rule of law; qualities which will serve her well in her new role.

"Of note, is Justice Beazley's significant contribution to the judiciary and the law, particularly in relation to professional and ethical standards and the advancement of women in the legal profession, for which she was made an Officer in the Order if Australia in 2006.

"I am delighted that Justice Beazley's considerable achievements and expertise have been recognised with her appointment as the state's 39th Governor.

"It is a welcome appointment and I wish her every success in her new role."
