Our Watch

One of my priorities as President this year has been to encourage members to join me in supporting the valuable work of Our Watch, the national charity for the prevention of domestic violence. During the course of the year, the Law Society has held a number of events to raise funds for and to promote the work of Our Watch, the most recent being the Law Society’s annual Just Art competition. Report shows 20-fold increase in NSW police strip searches
Police officers in NSW conducted almost 5,500 strip searches outside of police stations in one year, and two thirds of those searches found nothing.

Election of Councillors – Notice of Forthcoming Election
In the upcoming 2019 Council Election six vacancies will be filled by election:
one Large Firm Councillor, one Country Councillor, one Suburban Councillor, one Corporate Councillor, and two Councillors (with each position for a three-year term). The seventh vacancy is to be filled by the appointment of a Young Lawyer Councillor for a one-year term in accordance with clause 8.1.8 of the Law Society’s Articles of Association. Nominations for the upcoming Council Election must be received by the Company Secretary of the Law Society not later than 4.00pm on Monday 16 September 2019Download the notice of election.
