Human Rights

Sub-Committee

What we do

The Human Rights Sub-Committee focuses on domestic and international human rights law and policy. The aim of the Sub-Committee is to provide a space for early career solicitors and law students to network, discuss human rights law, gain career insights and opportunities, increase their knowledge of topical issues, and advance human rights.

Our initiatives

  • The Sub-Committee runs a number of award-winning projects aimed at increasing access to justice and advancing the protection and promotion of human rights within Australia and internationally. An example being the Sub-Committee’s Refugee Assistance Project, which was awarded the NSW Young Lawyer’s Patron Award for Best Community Project in both 2016 and 2017.
  • The Sub-Committee regularly hosts guest speakers, including leading human rights barristers and lawyers, who share insights on topical issues aimed at educating the profession and community.
  • The Sub-Committee hosts networking and career events to enable subscribers to meet pre-eminent human rights lawyers and gain insights on career paths and opportunities.
  • The Sub-Committee takes an active role in law reform and policy, commenting on legislative and policy changes that have human rights implications at the Federal and State levels.
