Solicitor Identification Card

Holders of current NSW Practising Certificates are eligible to be issued with a Solicitor Identification Card, which can be used to confirm your entitlement to practise as a solicitor in New South Wales.

The card issued to Solicitor Members of the Law Society of New South Wales is a Platinum card. This not only acts as your identity card, but can also be used to access the Law Society’s Member Connexions benefits.

Apply for a card

Cards are usually applied for (or updated) at the time you apply for a Practising Certificate or are renewing your Practising Certificate. There is a relevant section on the application forms. Also, you can make a request in writing at any time to the Law Society Registry.

The card may be issued with or without a photo. If the card has a photo, it may be used to gain access to NSW courts and prisons.

If you would like a photo ID card you will need to supply a passport photo that is less than 12 months old.

If you wish to update the photo on your card, please send a new photo to the Law Society Registry with your name clearly written on the reverse of the photo.

There is a replacement fee of $20 if the card is lost.
