"I do think that Magna Carta and international law are worth paying some attention to."
~ Noam Chomsky
The International Law Committee is a dynamic group of young lawyers and law students who are passionate about International Law and its growing role in our practices, our political system and our lives. We firmly believe that international law deserves our attention. We offer a platform for like-minded individuals to discuss a plethora of international issues relating to both public & private international law, disseminate their findings and network with their peers and professionals. We seek to provide the legal and wider communities with a distinctive Australian perspective on contemporary international legal issues and developments.
Our members meet monthly to discuss committee projects and hear from notable guest speakers on current issues in international law. Our projects and activities are wide-ranging and include writing submissions to senate enquiries on questions pertaining to international law, organising international law debates and panel events with key partners like the Australian Institute of International Affairs, holding CPD’s on international law topics. drafting publications like the International Law Internship Guide and the Practitioners Guides to International Law, facilitating the international blog internship with the Rule of Law Institute of Australia, holding our flagship competition – the International Arbitration Moot Competition in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and last year we introduced the International Negotiation & Dispute Resolution Seminar Series in conjunction with the Australian Centre for Commercial & International Arbitration and the Australian Disputes Centre. You too can be involved in any number of these projects!
In amongst all this, we also hold networking and social events allowing members to mingle with their peers as well as with key committee alumni and professional organisations in the international legal sphere. We can provide you the opportunity to forge these connections yourself. International Law is awaiting you and the Committee is here to facilitate your interactions with it. Begin your journey with us!
