Activities and events
Our Committee has many projects to get involved with, regardless of whether you can make it to meetings. Our working groups are always busy with a variety of activities including:

- Establishing a database of human rights jobs/internships/scholarships
- Same Sex Marriage forum in Martin Place (pictured)
- Launching a Mental Health pamphlet and sending it out to all lawyers
- Developing projects to liaise with Aboringal & Torres Stait Islander community
- Launching the 2nd edition of the New Land New Law handbook for the migrant community
- St Vincent de Paul Kids days training
Our Committee regularly prepares and makes submissions and letters of inquiry on proposed changes to the laws relating to Human Rights. Click here to be directed to NSW Young Lawyers' submissions.
Events
Our committee organises many events as part of our commitment to creating debate about and influence legal developments relating to important human rights issues.
We regularly stage workshops, CLE seminars, mock trials and other social and professional networking events. There’s always something coming up on the Human Rights Calendar.
Past CLE Seminars
Some of our recent CLE seminars include:
- Update on Counter-Terrorism Laws: Dr Haneef and the Clarke Inquiry on 25 March 2009 presented by Dr Ben Saul, David Bennett AC QC and Stephen Keim SC
- A Charter of Rights for Australia on 9 May 2009 with speakers including the Hon. Catherine Branson QC, Professor George Williams, Professor Hilary Charlesworth AM, Robin Banks, Professor David Kinley and Dr Ben Saul
- The Role of Litigation in the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights on Wednesday 9 September 2009 presented by Robin, Kate Eastman and Jonathan Hunyor.

- The NSWYL Human Rights Committee was among a number of NGOs to compile this shadow report to the UN on how Australia is meeting its obligations under International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
- New Land New Law Workshop for Refugees with Mission Australia (16 August 2008)
