Family Law Committee

The Family Law Committee brings together young family lawyers throughout NSW and provides the opportunity for individuals to raise issues of relevance and share experiences to build and develop knowledge and networks for the benefit of young practitioners, the profession and ultimately the community at large.

The Committee has a number of broad objectives, including monitoring and responding to proposed changes or issues in the family law jurisdiction and organising events and publications on issues relating to family law.

The Committee regularly arranges CPDs and events for members with a focus not just on family law issues but also supporting young lawyers and providing networking and development opportunities.

If you want to get involved in the work of the Committee and meet likeminded young lawyers, you are welcome to attend our monthly meetings at the Law Society.

2017 EVENTS

Professional Skills Series The Professional Skills Series is a collection of sessions which aim to equip young lawyers with practical skills and assist them in preparing and conducting matters before the court, often with a family law focus. The sessions are usually held at the Federal Circuit Court in Parramatta and are facilitated by Judge Harman. The topics and speakers vary with each session and have included judicial officers, barristers and senior practitioners, each bringing their own experience and insight to ensure the sessions are engaging and relevant to all young lawyers. The success of the Professional Skills Series was recognised when it was awarded the Patron Award for Best Professional Project at the NSW Young Lawyers’ 2016 Annual Assembly. The Professional Skill Series will continue in 2017, with one to two sessions per month on a wide range of topics. See the Calendar to register for upcoming sessions.
