Bushweb - Regional Issues Committee

The Bushweb - Regional Issues Committee is an online committee designed to meet the needs of young and newly practising lawyers and law students, living outside the CBD in regional and rural areas.

Being a member of NSW Young Lawyers brings many benefits and distance or previous experience is no barrier to being involved. Our committee builds on NSW Young Lawyers’ commitment to provide all of its members the chance to become involved, regardless of where they live, practice or study. Our major priority is keeping our members informed about Young Lawyers’ activities and projects.

Bushweb is not just for rural or regional practitioners and is a great source of information for all practitioners looking for concise information about the activities, projects and events run by NSW Young Lawyers.

Our history

Bushweb began in 2002 as an email discussion list for use by NSW Young Lawyers delegates representing their regional law societies at the Mid Year and Annual Assemblies. NSW Young Lawyers has a delegate in each law society region of NSW.

The committee came into being in late 2003, when Kevin Dwyer, the NSW Young Lawyers Regional Delegate for the St George & Sutherland Regional Law Society was appointed as our first online chair.

He was given the mandate of improving communication by and between NSW Young Lawyers and our members living and working outside the CBD in metropolitan and regional areas.

Our objectives

Bushweb's objectives include the following:

  • Promote the activities, projects and functions of NSWYL operations to the regional law societies
  • Raise the profile of NSW Young Lawyers in the regions
  • Encourage greater communication between young lawyers throughout regional NSW and establish an on-line support network
  • Attract increased regional awareness and involvement in committee projects, forums and activities
  • Encourage and expand the portability of NSWYL projects into regional areas – e.g. CLE; the launch and distribution of our Practitioner Guides and also our handbooks such as Older People and the Law, and New Land/ New Law.
  • Connect all isolated young lawyers with relevant services
  • Harness the abilities, knowledge and experiences of Regional practitioners for the benefit of the entire legal profession
  • Create an accessible starting point for practitioners keen to get involved and guiding them toward specialised committees within our organisation

Our activities

Bushweb’s core activities focus on keeping young and newly practicing lawyers and law students up to date with the work of NSW Young Lawyers and in touch with changes relating to the legal profession.
