The Law Society of NSW is committed to strengthening professional support for practitioners working in rural, regional and remote areas of New South Wales and to increasing access to justice for socially and economically disadvantaged people.
As part of that commitment the Society is working with NSW legal agencies through the NSW Legal Assistance Forum to inform practitioners about the opportunities that are available in non metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas.
Solicitor Family Law, Legal Aid NSW
Legal Aid are currently advertising for short term vacancies (1-4 months) for family law solicitors in various locations throughout NSW.
Applicants must:hold or be eligible for a current NSW Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW and have knowledge of family law. Other selection criteria include the capacity to represent clients and participate in lawyer assisted mediation processes. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to provide quality customer service in a high volume work environment are also required with a proven capacity to identify and understand legal and cross cultural issues facing socially and economically disadvantaged people. Applicants must also be able to understand Legal Aid NSW policies and procedures to determine applications of legal aid and advise clients about eligibility, or the capacity to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare court/legal documents, correspondence, submissions and other written materials are required as is the ability to meet deadlines and work independently without close supervision. Demonstrated computer skills and willingness to work independently and without administrative support is also required.

Legal Project Management Adviser – PNG
A unique opportunity exists for a senior legal practitioner, working within The Advocacy & Legal Advice Centre (ALAC) of Transparency International PNG (TIPNG). ALAC is one of the most dynamic new anti-corruption intervention experiments by the global TI movement.
Based in Port Moresby, the role’s focus is to ensure all necessary procedures are in place to adequately manage the processing of complaints and, as a consequence, to ensure lobbying strategies are devised and implemented ensuring systemic institutional changes are effected as a result.
To be considered for this specialist position, you will require appropriate University Qualifications in Law with a specialised Post Graduate focusing on Legal Project Management, substantial experience as a legal practitioner, experience as a mentor working in areas of legal projects and ideally have experience with NGOs working in community empowerment and advocacy.
You will be provided with secure and safe accommodation in Port Moresby, in safe locations within the city.
Human Rights Policy Development Mentor - Fiji
The Pacific Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT) is a Pacific grown program providing technical advice and training on human rights, governance, democracy and the rule of law. RRRT is now seeking to strengthen the skills of their staff particularly within human rights policy, however there is a lack of specialists based within the Pacific region. With your background in human rights policy, this role will provide you with the opportunity to develop staff capacity in this area through assessments, mentoring plans and (informal) on the job training.
With your eye for detail and strong organisational skills, you will also be responsible for ensuring materials are kept up to date and in-line with RRRT's training and policy work.To be considered for this position, you will require a relevant legal qualification, curriculum development and distance education experience, preferably within human rights/gender law.All applications must be submitted by Monday 7 November.
