Board Ready Event

Discover how you can find a seat on a board - and why you should want to.

“Board Ready” is an event designed to uncover the mysteries of boards to young lawyers. We will discuss the fundamentals in terms of the skills required for directorship and what you can start doing today to be more attractive to a board down the track.

About the Event

On 10 November 2016, NSW Young Lawyers held its annual Board Ready event, but this year with a changed format. The focus was still on uncovering the mysteries of boards for young lawyers but we also took time to discuss the fundamental skills required for directorship and what young lawyers can start doing now to be more attractive to a board down the track.

We first heard from Richard Broug, Board Director of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and General Manager, Global Retail – Paspaley, who spoke not only about his experience on boards as a director but also his experience working with a board as an executive.

We then heard from Jacqueline Emery, Head of Partnerships, Australian Institute of Company Directors, who provided an outline of those fundamental skills important to a director and what skills young lawyers should be looking to develop now.

The near 100 young lawyers in attendance then had the opportunity to ask questions of Jacqueline and Richard to truly uncover the mysteries of directorships for young lawyers.
