Open Court Days

Fairfield and Liverpool

31 July and 1 August 2019

Fairfield & Liverpool

Events to be held at:

Fairfield Local Court - 31 July 2019

Liverpool Local Court - 1 August 2019

In order to break down barriers between the CALD communities and the justice system, we're opening the court doors during the magistrates conference on 31 July and 1 August. This event is catered to newly arrived refugees and people from a NESB undertaking the Adult Migrant Education Program and students from Navitas and TAFE NSW.

There will be two rotational sessions - one on AVOs/Family Law/Care and Protection and the other a mock trial of a newly arrived migrant who has been charged with speeding and drive whilst unlicensed (this is an issue that particularly affects newly arrived refugees). Participants will have a tour of the Local Courts complex and the Registrar of those courts, Fabienne Blancquart, will host both days.

This will allow the Fairfield and Liverpool community access to their local court and to help raise awareness, there will be a mock trial and a presentation by the police to demonstrate how accessible, transparent and safe the local court is to everyone when starting their legal journey or seeking legal help.
