The Law Guide

“The Law Guide” (The Guide) is a joint initiative of the Law Society of NSW and GradAustralia to showcase to law students the broad range of career options available with a law degree.

The Guide is a comprehensive publication that covers the various key practice areas in commercial law, non-legal career specialisations and alternative legal careers in different sectors, including legal academia, NewLaw, the public sector and many more.

The Guide also features profiles from professionals who hold a law degree, currently practicing in a wide variety of legal, legal-adjacent and non-legal industries.

The Guide is intended to be an insightful and informative overview of the different facets of the legal industry, illustrating all the key points of consideration law students need to be thinking of on their journey from student to graduate and beyond.

The primary reason for creating the Guide was to inform students about the multitude of career options available with a law degree. In response to the perceived oversupply of law students, graduates and practicing lawyers, the guide was also viewed as an opportunity to enlighten students as to some of the career options they may not have known about. It also details comprehensive information about how to get hired in law, key resources and where students can look to for support.

As a whole, the Guide is way to bring all the necessary information students need into one place, in order to help them flourish as a law graduate and young professional.
