Choosing the right lawyer is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. The right lawyer will listen and understand your problems.
The right lawyer will find practical solutions that save you time and money. And the right lawyer will have the proven expertise you need in the right area of law.
The Law Society's Specialist Accreditation Program can help you find the right lawyer.
The Specialist Accreditation Scheme was established by the Law Society of NSW in 1992 to provide guidance to members of the public who need legal services in certain areas, and encouragement to members of the profession who wish to specialise.
Accredited Specialists: solicitors with proven expertise
Specialist Accreditation identifies, monitors and registers solicitors specialising in 14 areas of law.
The Board currently offers accreditation in:
| Advocacy | Business Law | Children's Law |
| Commercial Litigation | Criminal Law | Employment and Industrial |
| Family Law | Immigration Law | Local Government & Planning |
| Mediation | Personal Injury | Property Law |
| Taxation Law | Wills and Estates |
New areas of accreditation will be offered from time to time and are chosen by the following criteria:
- The area is one which is identifiable by the consumers of legal services
- There is a recognisable need for identification of specialists
- The area is one which fosters specialisation
- The accrediting of specialists will provide a worthwhile point of reference for other practitioners
Only those solicitors who pass the Law Society's exacting tests can use the Specialist Accreditation logo.
Each Accredited Specialist solicitor must have:
- at least five years full time practice
- at least three years specialty work
- passed rigorous exams in communication, problem solving, client service and, of course, the law.
So when you see the Law Society's Specialist Accreditation logo, you know you're on track for the right lawyer. |
