nsw Young Lawyers - A Fresh Perspective

debrief

A Welcome From The President

Dear Young Lawyer

With so many fantastic events planned for May, there are plenty of opportunities to become involved with NSW Young Lawyers this month.

For the seventeenth year running, our Golden Gavel Competition will be held on the final day of Law Week. Please join us for breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday 15 May and be dazzled by the wit and humour of our young lawyers.

Other highlights this month include our first ever 'Charter of Rights for Australia' full day seminar this Saturday, the launch of our Human Rights Opportunities Database on 14 May, the inaugural civil litigation essay competition and 'Bringing up Gayby: Is Same-Sex adoption a human Right' forum to be held at Martin Place on 15 May 2009.

Also, following the successful completion of the 2008 mentoring pilot, the Law Society in conjunction with NSW Young Lawyers has decided to continue with a mentoring program in 2009 and is calling for expressions of interest by 31 May 2009. The program is open to Law Society members who may be young lawyers seeking guidance in regard to development of their careers and more experienced practitioners who are prepared to provide that guidance. Application forms for mentors and mentees are available vie our website. Applications must be received no later than 31 May 2009. For further information please contact the program co-ordinator Laraine Walker.
