Criminal Law Committee

About us

Our members include judge’s associates, solicitors from private and government practice, the Office of the New South Wales Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Aid Commission, the Crown Solicitor’s Office, the Judicial Commission and the Law Reform Commission.

Our objectives

Our activities are guided by our underlying objectives, which include: 

  • providing professional education in criminal law for the whole profession by organising CLE seminars as part of the NSW Young Lawyers CLE programme. 
  • proactively monitor and have input into changes in criminal law and human rights, comment on legislative proposals and be involved in law reform. 
  • promoting access to justice and the fair and efficient administration of justice, particularly in relation to disadvantaged groups, such as indigenous Australians, the mentally ill, young people and the intellectually disabled. 
  • organising meetings, public forums and seminars and publications relating to criminal law. 
  • providing a forum for young practitioners to discuss issues of concern. 
  • promoting issues which are relevant to young lawyers. 
  • providing a peer support network for young legal practitioners involved in criminal law.
