Meet the current office bearers
President
The President is the public face of the NSW Young Lawyers and provides leadership, direction and advocacy for its members.
The President’s role includes appointing delegates to the Assembly (in consultation with the NSW Law Society and regional law societies), chairing meetings of the Assembly, Executive Council and Office Bearers and reporting back to the Assembly on the activities of the NSW Young Lawyers.
The position of President is automatically filled each year by the outgoing Vice-President.
Vice-President
The Vice-President’s role includes raising sponsorship for NSW Young Lawyers, helping the Treasurer with the Budget preparation and carrying out duties assigned by the President or the Assembly. The Vice-President automatically becomes President in the following year.
Treasurer
Reporting to the Executive Council and the Assembly, the Treasurer is responsible for the management of NSW Young Lawyers' finances. The Treasurer also prepares a budget for approval by the Executive Council which is placed before the Assembly for ratification each year.
Secretary
The Secretary issues notices of all meetings of the Assembly and of the Executive Council and keeps minutes of those meetings.
Immediate Past President
The Immediate Past President position is filled by the outgoing President of NSW Young Lawyers. The Immediate Past President monitors the annual elections for office bearers and vacant Executive Council positions.
The Immediate Past President is an Ex-Officio member of the Executive Council and a councillor of the Law Society of NSW.
Executive Councillors
Executive Councillors provide assistance in the planning of the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program of NSW Young Lawyers and must participate in and/or chair at least one Committee during their term. They must also undertake duties allocated by the President and attend Executive Council meetings. Executive Councillors, who are not Office Bearers, are elected for a term of two years.
Further information about the requirements of the Assembly, Executive Council and Officer Bearers can be found in the NSW Young Lawyers Constitution.
