Membership Young Lawyers Membership

Becoming a member of Young Lawyers couldn’t be easier, in fact, if you fit into one of the categories below, you are automatically a member!

  • Australian lawyers or legal practitioners admitted to practice in New South Wales who are either under 36 years of age or who have been admitted for less than five years; and
  • Students enrolled in a course of studies approved by the Solicitors and Barristers Admission Board, the successful completion of which leads to the entitlement to apply for admission to practise as a lawyer or legal practitioner in New South Wales.

Membership of Young Lawyers terminates automatically when a member turns 36 or five years after admission, whichever is the later event.

Young barristers

Although the Law Society of NSW is a professional association for solicitors, young barristers are encouraged to participate in Young Lawyers. The first few years at the Bar can be a real challenge and Young Lawyers can provide peer support and help to develop long-term professional relationships.

Students

Young Lawyers gives students the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the profession you will soon be part of. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in a meaningful forum for change, sharpen your knowledge and have fun along the way.
