Continuing Legal Education (CLE)

To equip practitioners with the latest information and practical expertise they need to meet their responsibilities to the profession and clients, the Law Society offers a range of CLE opportunities through NSW Young Lawyers, Law Society CPD, the Professional Support Unit, regional law societies and the Policy and Practice Department.

Continuing Professional Development

The Law Society coordinates over 100 continuing professional development (CPD) seminars each year through the NSW Young Lawyers CLE and Law Society CPD programs.  Presented by expert speakers from the courts and the profession, seminars are designed for practitioners at all stages of their careers.

CPD seminars are available in both substantive law and the mandatory requirements of Solicitors Rule 42 MCLE in the areas of Practice Management, Ethics, Professional Skills and Regulation 176.

View and register for upcoming CPD seminars.

My CLE Library

Practitioners can earn CLE units without leaving their desk and in their own timeframe.  Selected CPD seminars are recorded and available for downloading as video podcasts through My CLE Library.  Members receive a discounted rate for podcasts.  For more information visit the CLE Video Podcast page.

Papers from some sessions are also available for purchase through the Law Society Shop.

Professional Support Unit

Experts on ethics, practice management and costs from the Professional Support Unit can provide seminars tailored to an in-house, government or firm's practice. These free seminars are specifically designed to ensure compliance with mandatory CLE topics under Rule 42.1.6 of the Revised Professional Conduct and Practice Rules 1995 (Solicitors' Rules). For more information visit the Mandatory CPD page.

Policy and Practice Department

The various policy committees of the Society organise specialist seminars throughout the year. These seminars focus on the different areas of law including corporate and government practice, rural issues and alternative dispute resolution. See the Events listing page for more details.

Regional Law Societies

A network of 29 regional law societies provide practical support for their members through CLE seminars, networking events and communication about local issues. A listing of all upcoming seminars and events hosted by regional law societies can be access on the Law Society's online Events Calendar
