At the Law Society we believe professional development should not just focus on the latest knowledge and thinking; it should also give you concrete tips and techniques that you can use in everyday practice. We aim to make professional development more accessible and available for all practitioners regardless of geographical location or busy schedule and, with the addition of live webcasts and the introduction of new online modules, there has never been a more convenient way to complete your CPD requirements.

There are a variety of ways to meet your CPD requirements that are outlined in the Legal Profession Uniform Continuing Professional Development (Solicitors) Rules 2015. These place limitations and restrictions on some of the ways in which you can claim CPD units.

Live Webcast

Can’t make it to the Law Society building? Not a problem! Live webcasting is essentially broadcasting over the internet, bringing a live seminar from our training room straight to you, no matter where you are.

With the facilities to ask questions and view presentations in real time, you will feel like you’re there with this interactive, convenient way to complete CPD.

Live webcasts are considered in the same way as face-to-face seminars - practitioners are able to claim unlimited CPD this way.

CPD Video Podcast

If your time is precious and it is difficult to schedule in time to either tune into a webcast or attend a CPD seminar in person, CPD video podcasts are a great alternative.

These are recordings of seminars that have already taken place at the Law Society which can be purchased after the event and viewed at a time convenient for you. You will be able to download any papers/materials provided at the seminar and are able to pause, replay, or complete the podcast at a later date. Once you purchase an online podcast it will be available in your 'My CLE Library'.

Our selection of video podcasts cover a broad range of topics and new podcasts are being added all the time.

CPD video podcasts are considered private study of audio/visual material - practitioners are able to claim up to five CPD units per year this way.

Quick Interactive CPD modules

The Law Society has recently partnered with CPD Interactive to offer you ‘snack size’ online and interactive CPD modules that you can complete anytime, anywhere. Similar to CPD video podcasts, you can begin, then pause a course and pick up where you left off, making them easy to fit into your busy schedule.

Offering courses in a broad range of categories, CPD Interactive has garnered highly respected judges, barristers and lawyers to provide content so you can learn from the very best. Each course is designed to take one to two hours.

Online Procedural Courses

A staple of our CPD offerings has been our online procedural courses providing a flexible study option with practical information and hands-on examples to help manage and grow a successful legal practice, and navigate legal procedures.

With the option of 4 week and 8 week courses in key legal areas, this is a fantastic way to achieve a sound understanding of administrative procedures as well as experiencing example documentation required in various legal matters. The Online Legal Essentials course also provides a basic overview to the NSW legal industry.
